Local Events

The Bristol city region is home to many local, national and international events, covering a wide variety of scientific disciplines and related technologies. A full list of forthcoming events can be found on our events pages, but here are just some of the key dates to watch out for throughout the year. 
 
National Science and Engineering Week - March 
National Science and Engineering Week (formerly National Science Week) is an opportunity for people of all ages, areas and organisations to take part in science, engineering and technology activities. it is coordinated by the BA in partnership with the Engineering and Technology Board. It is funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills. 
 
Festival of Ideas - May & October  
The Festival of Ideas is an initiative of Bristol Cultural Development Partnership. It returns this year to stimulate the minds and passions of the people of Bristol. Taking place throughout May the fourth festival addresses many issues of the day including science today, Fair Trade and transition to a greener society, changing America, the media and truth. Festival of Nature - June 
The Festival of Nature is the UK's biggest celebration of the natural world. Organised by the Bristol Natural History Consortium, it is an annual event held at the Harbourside in Bristol on the first weekend in June. 2008 will be the fifth anniversary of the Festival. 
 
Cheltenham Science Festival - June 
Cheltenham Science Festival is an annual event, held in June, and according to Professor Lord Winston "is setting the example" to other science festivals around the world. In 2007, some of the most distinguished scientists and thinkers of modern times discussed an array of topics from the effects of environmental damage to investigating the limits of human endurance. Details of the 2008 programme will be issued shortly.
