Technology Strategy Board
The Technology Strategy Board was established by the Government as a business-led executive non-departmental public body in July 2007, and is sponsored by the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS). This new organisation has a wide remit - to stimulate innovation in those areas which offer the greatest scope for boosting UK growth and productivity.
Innovation and technology, in the broadest sense, offer not only a source of global competitive advantage but also a means of tackling many of today's greatest societal challenges. The Technology Strategy Board's mission: to promote and support research into, and development and exploitation of, technology and innovation - in order to increase economic growth and quality of life in the UK.
Over the next three years the Technology Strategy Board will be investing around £1bn in the development and exploitation of technological innovation in those areas which will make the greatest difference to the prosperity and wellbeing of the UK. Programmes include knowledge transfer networks and partnerships, funding Collaborative Research and Development programmes selected through open competition, and a range of other initiatives designed to stimulate business innovation.
The organisation operates across Government and in partnership not only with business but with Government departments, RDAs, Devolved Administrations and Research Councils.
